InterZoo 2024: Innovation, Relationships, and Pet Care's Future
Attending the recent InterZoo event in Nuremberg was an exhilarating (and exhausting!) experience. This trade fair, known for being a launching pad for long-standing business relationships and partnerships, once again set new benchmarks in product quality, functionality, and stand design. The emphasis on placing the needs of animals at the center of new products was particularly heartening.
A Surge in Attendance and Exhibitor Diversity
InterZoo 2024 saw a remarkable increase in attendance, with around 37,000 trade visitors from 140 countries—a 32 percent rise compared to the previous event. The Nuremberg Exhibition Centre was bustling with activity as 2,150 exhibitors from 68 countries showcased the latest innovations and services for a variety of pets, including dogs, cats, fish, small mammals, and terrarium animals.
Innovations Galore: From Tech to Nutrition
The array of technological advancements and new products on display was truly impressive. One of the standout innovations was a facial recognition system for pets based on biometric data, highlighting how technology is increasingly playing a role in pet care. Additionally, the introduction of purely plant-based dry dog food marked a significant step towards more sustainable and ethical pet nutrition.
Belgian pet food manufacturer Edgard & Cooper (recently acquired by General Mills) launched a new range of cat treats aimed at 'rewarding,' 'mental play,' and 'hunting.' These treats are designed to be nutritious and purposeful, supporting feline well-being. I was lucky enough to get some samples to bring home to my own two feline friends!
Building and Strengthening Relationships
InterZoo 2024 was not just about the products; it was also about people. It was great to catch up with prospects and existing customers, as well as meet many industry veterans. The event provided a fantastic opportunity to discuss trends, share insights, and explore potential collaborations. In addition to the more than 30 speakers, the networking lounge was home to many meet & greets, I personally loved meeting some of the “petfluencers”.
